The study and practice of yoga begins with awareness.  Maintained over time, this builds a solid foundation deeply rooted in a sense of inner peace that supports one's health and happiness.  Irene's personal practice of yoga began over 25 years ago, and has developed into the gift that she shares with others in hospital and corporate settings, as well as at the serene studio she and Ron share located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Irene creates an environment where each class is an opportunity for self-discovery.  She provides a foundation for you to cultivate awareness and develop the skills to establish a personal practice.  Irene empowers you to discover the benefits of yoga for yourself, to use the path of yoga to support your life and foster health and well-being.

Irene is a registered nurse and wellness coach specializing in Therapeutic Cardiac Yoga and Stress Management. Her interest in health and love of sharing yoga has led her, with her husband Ron, to build the Blue Ridge Aikido & Yoga Center in Troutville, Virginia.  Irene is certified by Lighten Up Yoga Teacher Training Institute, an intensive course of study based on the Iyengar Method, registered with the National Yoga Alliance.  She is further certified through the completion of a 500 hour program in the art and science of yoga with Anna Pitman in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Irene's strong desire to bring the healing art of yoga into the medical setting led her to complete an Advanced Teacher Training in Cardiac Yoga® with Dr. Mala Cunningham.  Her work with people living with the challenges of heart disease brought her back to the Integral Yoga Institute for  Stress Management Training. The Integral Yoga® system of Hatha Yoga is utilized by the Commonweal Cancer Help program and by Dr. Dean Ornish in his book Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease. Irene offers programs to individuals, groups, and in the workplace setting.
